Questions travellers ask
Short answers about eSIM travel and how Simple eSIM Match estimates data. This is not legal, coverage, or speed advice.
About eSIMs
What an eSIM is, and what a travel plan may not include.
An eSIM is a digital SIM stored in your phone. It lets you add a travel data plan without a physical card. Your phone must support eSIM, and some devices are locked to a carrier.
Not always. Many travel eSIMs are data-only. Calls, SMS, hotspot, 5G, top-up, and automatic activation are not assumed. Verify the exact plan terms on the provider’s website before you buy.
Many phones can keep a physical SIM or primary number while using a travel eSIM for data. WhatsApp is usually tied to the number you registered, not the travel eSIM. Device and app behaviour vary — check your phone and WhatsApp settings.
Phone and setup
Compatibility depends on the phone. Install and activation follow the provider that sells the plan.
Compatibility depends on the exact model, the country it was sold in, whether it is carrier locked, and your device settings. Simple eSIM Match does not detect or certify phones. Look for Add eSIM in your settings, and confirm with the manufacturer or carrier if you are unsure.
Follow the provider’s instructions. Some plans activate when installed; others start when you connect to a network or on a chosen date. Install before you travel only if the provider allows it, and confirm the activation rules on the provider’s website.
Choosing data
How the estimate is calculated, trips with more than one country, and why some prices are missing.
Simple eSIM Match multiplies a daily usage assumption by the trip days, including the return day, for one traveler, then multiplies by 1.2. Everyday use is 0.75 GB per day; Essentials 0.25 GB; Heavy 1.5 GB; Streaming & hotspot 3.0 GB. The 20% margin is for planning. It does not mean the trip will stay inside that amount. This is an estimate, not a guarantee of actual use, speed, or coverage.
Use Multiple countries and select each country. A result is shown only when every selected country is in that option’s verified coverage. Published snapshots can include Airalo, Ubigi, Maya Mobile when every country is on Maya’s coverage list, Yesim as a provider page, and Nomad country plans. Nomad regional and global plans are not published. Saily may appear as a country page without a comparable price or data allowance. Providers that are not in the public comparison are not shown as exact package results. Confirm coverage on the provider’s site.
A price and a price per GB appear only when a verified amount and currency are recorded for that plan. A missing price is never treated as zero. Unlimited plans do not get a price per GB. A provider page is not an exact gigabyte match, because the package is chosen on the provider’s site.
How Simple compares
Simple eSIM Match helps you compare stored options. The provider you buy from handles the plan after purchase.
Simple eSIM Match may earn a commission when you purchase through some links, at no extra cost to you. Commissions do not determine provider order.
Confirm device eSIM support and any carrier lock, coverage for every country on your trip, data amount or fair-use policy, validity, activation, hotspot, calls or SMS, and the final price on the provider’s website. Simple eSIM Match does not sell the eSIM or provide post-purchase network support.
Still need help?
Simple eSIM Match can help you compare options and use this site. After you buy, activation, coverage, and network questions go to the provider that sold the plan.
